In the early to mid nineties and at the peak of his powers as a producer, Wu-Tang Clan mastermind RZA crafted a distinctive soundtrack at his basement studio in Staten Island. Whether or not he knew it at the time this haunting landscape of dusty samples, sharp snares and menacing urban gloom, would soon become a pillar of hip hop history. These instrumentals, peppered in with frequent interludes of dialogue from the classic samurai flick Shogun Assassin, became the core of the GZA’s 1995 sophomore LP Liquid Swords and would eventually be considered by many as each individual’s finest work.

Under development for months, Get On Down has finally unveiled the latest, painstakingly crafted volume in it’s Wu-Tang reissue series, one which we hope will stand as a testament to this iconic and legendary piece of Wu-Tang history. We are proud to present GZA/Genius’ Liquid Swords in a two disc deluxe “Chess Box” edition.

Housed in a sturdy wrapped hard board two piece box, this edition of Liquid Swords spans across 2 discs. Disc one contains the official album version while disc two contains the full RZA produced instrumentals, available for the first time ever as an official release. Both discs have been completely restored with remastered audio from the original source tapes and have truly never sounded better.As always with any deluxe Get On Down release, we have packaged this album with an array of extras, including; researched, in depth, full color liner notes with contributions from GZA himself, spanning across 20 pages, inner jackets and dust sleeves with memorable vintage artwork from the original release, and even a full wooden minature chess set, which can be played on the chess board printed and contained directly on the inner lining of the box. This is the Liquid Swords that both first time listeners and long-standing fans deserve.

Widely regarded as a pioneering album of the West Coast’s then-emerging alternative hip hop scene, The Pharcyde’s 1992 debut Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde makes a triumphant re-appearance two decades later in this deluxe 3xCD set by the good folks at Delicious Vinyl. Drawing from a laundry list of sampled jazz and soul greats to construct its musical sound scape, Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde marked the entry of The Pharcyde into the arena of beloved hip hop icons in the decades to come. Sonically, producer J-Sw!ft’s jazzy sampling and lush instrumentation provide a stark contrast to the hard-hitting gangsta rap dominating West Coast’s contributions to hip hop of the time, further complementing the laid-back comedic lyricism of emcees Fatlip, Bootie Brown, Imani, and Slimkid3 with a style seldom heard since.

This superbly arranged deluxe reissue includes the original album in its entirety, plus two additional discs including instrumentals, remixes, and ‘b-cydes.’ Fans will be pleased to find producer J-Swift’s extended liner notes included alongside vintage photos of the group. This deluxe reissue is housed in a beautiful hinged box with magnetic clasp emblazoned with the iconic rollercoaster cover art by Fuct.

“Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde” is the debut album from The Pharcyde. Released in late 1992 by Delicious Vinyl, the album was hailed by critics and alternative rap fans and appeared in “best albums” lists in several publications.

Produced entirerly by J-Swift with easily some of the tightest and most inventive beats of the era, “Bizarre Ride” features only one guest appearance, provided by little known Los Angeles rapper Buckwheat (who would become known as “Bucwheed” from The Wascals). Released during the dominant Gangsta Rap era of the West Coast, the music was described as “refreshing” due to its playful, light-hearted humor and lush, jazzy production.

Along with albums like “To Whom it May Concern…” by Freestyle Fellowship, and “I Wish My Brother George Was Here” by Del tha Funkee Homosapien, “Bizarre Ride” helped establish a new alternative scene on the West Coast followed by artists such as Hieroglyphics, The Coup and Jurassic 5.

The album featured four singles, all of which were accompanied by music videos. The group’s debut single, “Ya Mama”, originally released in 1991, was the song that landed the group their record deal, but it failed to reach any Billboard singles chart.

Their first major exposure came with the release of the album’s second single, “Passing Me By”. The song became the group’s biggest crossover hit and is now considered a classic Hip Hop single. The album’s third single, “4 Better or 4 Worse”, was released in mid-1993 and featured the stoner song “Pack the Pipe” and the throwback track “Return of the B-Boy” as its B-Side. The final single, the SlimKid solo track “Otha Fish”, was released in late 1993.
